Welcome to Costa Rica

December 18, 2007 by idreamnow

Idream Now has been recently upgraded to http://idreamnowtravelblog.com/

The first sign you see when arriving in Costa Rica reads as follows.  “Welcome to Costa Rica: Any sexual activity with a minor is punishable by imprisonment.”  It was not the welcoming sign I was expecting to see; I had clearly entered a third world country that was very far from home.

The airport in Liberia was a small bunker, the high hanging lights over head where being dimmed by the huge swarm of insects all around them.   Every two to three seconds an insect would land or crash into you.  I  breezed through customs that seemed more like a welcoming committee then anything else.  Because of my 4 hour delay the last bus for Tamarindo was long gone and it was either going to be a ridiculously expensive cab ride or maybe get lucky with some improvising.  “Anyone going to Tamarindo?”

What happened next is the reason I love traveling on a complete whime without any set plans what so ever…..

Opening Lyrics to the Movie The Beach

There is a certain satisfaction in completing a good pack.  When everything is done and everything is ready: the journey begins.   That about sums up my morning today.  I am beginning a new journey towards the unknown, with no plans or schedule, no itinerary, or idea of what the future holds; I am completely free.

I thought I would leave you with a couple quotes from the two movies I decided to watch before my trip.  I hope you enjoy….

Opening Lyrics to the Movie The Beach

” My name is Richard; so what else do you need to know?  Stuff about my family or where I am from? None of that matters.  Not once you have crossed the ocean and cut yourself lose; looking for something more beautiful; more exciting.  And yes I admit something more dangerous.  So after 18 hours in the back of an airplane; three dumb movies; two plastic meals; six beers and absolutely no sleep.  I finally touched down…”

“…So never refuse an invitation; never resist the unfamiliar; never fail to be polite; never over stay your welcome.  Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience: and if it hurts it’s probably worth it.”

“and as for traveling alone; fuck it.  If that’s the way it has to be; then that’s the way it is.”

The movie Pointbreak

“I must be crazy.”

“but are you crazy enough”

See you in Costa Rica

Poetry for the traveling Soul…Check out these wonderful poems

I found this beautiful and inspiring poetry book called Notes From the Inside by Doug Rose.  Anyone wishing to read some inspiring poetry about Traveling should continue reading.

Offerings

Facing forward, looking back the way I

Travelled all I could see was a crystal ship

Suspended from the rear view mirror. Beauty

For the future or the past? Stay here in the

present, the waves are better, it beckons me

inside.  Sail to the emerald isle, covered in a

hundred shades of green, drinking beer

beneath ancient trees surrounding Trinity

College.  An old man (he could have been

the next James Joyce) sits on a park bench,

waiting to see what he missed.  All the words

that eluded him are piled up, running

through other people’s veins.  If I was cut

open I would offer him some with bloody

 fingers.

Doug Rose  Notes from the Inside.  P.57

Travel Guides

“That tidal wave crushed me down into the

sand, left me gasping for air in unfamiliar

territory. When I roll over I’ll find it’s all

been a dream, or discover how to breath

again. Did I make a conscious decision

many years ago to be alone?  Somewhere, in

The far recess of my mind, turning a

corner, not recognizing where I was, I kept

going anyway.  A sense of wonder, an aura

Of mystery perhaps?  Did I really think I was

the first one, the only one to go down that path?

Keep logging those impressions, maybe

one of us will produce the next Mona Lisa

or at least a new Travel Guide.”

Doug Rose  Notes from the Inside  p.18

The Wrath Of Angels

Stay with me here, in this moment.  It’s the

Only one that matters.  I can’t undo

Yesterdays, I’m not looking for tomorrows.

Drown me here and now with flowers of

Love.  Slap me with blossoms, tattoo my skin

With striped stems, rake me over your coals

With fine intentions.  Then, if you told me

You loved me I’d believe it.  I can’t hurt you

Anymore,  I’ve sold that too.  This is for you,

Kept for all these years.  An angel took it

from my hands, exchanged for ribbons of youth.

Surfing to be Free. Hang ten surfing these amazing new enlightened vibrations from the surfing soul of a backpacking genius in Costa Rica

A two minute Escape to Surfing beautiful beaches, hot bikinis and a never ending party from the road least traveled.   This is Idream Now Travel Blog.  Above, is what you can expect over the next month from my new Travel Blog.  I tried to think of a creative way to explain my motivations for this trip and the reason I picked Costa Rica.  So, I dug up this little excerpt from one of my previous travel journals that explains my desires to surf from one town to the next in Costa Rica.   I wrote this entry into one of my travel journal while in San Sebastian; a beautiful town in Northern Spain.  I got lost, and happened to arrive at this surf competition and  promo party.

The Surf Competition

(There is just something cool about surfing that I cannot really explain.  I know that one day I will surf and be a beach bum.  It is a way to become one with the Ocean and lose yourself in that majestic place.  I got lost on my way today but ended up just where I needed to be.  I always say, Fate, while traveling has a way of bringing you to the right place and time, so that you may savor a special moment.)

Surfing to be free…

(They wait in the water like a floating colony, hoping to catch the perfect wave where they lose themselves, only to become free.  As they rip across the surf, for a brief moment their soul’s become alive.  There is no longer any need to think, it is a time to just be.  Be free from the world and all its stressful bull shit.  Be alive, be content, be one with their soul.  Someday just like them, I will surf to be just me, me who is free. “

Taken from Old JMH Travel Journal archives

Today, I purchased a new backpack for my trip to Costa Rica.  It’s light weight with with track wheels, zip way harness strap, and a zip away day pack.  I love it.  For me the backpack is a universal symbol of freedom and exploration; a traveling colony of brave adventurers wishing to see first hand the different marvels of our world: indulging in the pursuit of pleasure and the adventure of the unknown.

Ulysses By Alfred Lord Tennyson my favorite poem by Idream now Travel blog

This is my favorite poem Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson.  A truly inspiring piece of literature that I love to share. This poem is Ulysses last speech to his Mariners inviting them to keep traveling towards the unknown horizon and continue living a life of adventure to the very end.  The finishing line “To Strive, To Seek, To Find, and not the yield” is where I take my own personal philosophy in life from.

To Strive for Love, To Seek Knowledge, To Find Happiness, and yield not to Fear.       JMH

Ulysses By Alfred Lord Tennyson

“I cannot rest from travel; I will drink

Life to the lees. All times I have enjoyed

Greatly, have suffered greatly, both with those

That loved me, and alone…

I am become a name;

For always roaming with a hungry heart

Much have I seen and known - cities of men

And manners, climates, councils, governments…

I am a part of all that I have met;

Yet experience is an arch where through

Gleams that untraveled world, whose margin fades

Forever and forever when I move.

How dull it is to pause, to make an end,

To rust unburnished, not to shine in use!..

And this gray spirit yearning in desire

To follow knowledge like a sinking star

Beyond the utmost bound of human thought…

Come, my friends,

‘Tis not too late to seek a newer world.

For my purpose holds

To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths

Of all the western stars, until I die.

We are not now that strength which in old days

Moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are;

One equal temper of heroic hearts,

Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will

To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.”

Seven Days and counting to Costa Rica

December 8, 2007 by idreamnow

Seven Days and counting to Costa Rica…I can feel the fear setting in a little more each day: a little hint of the unknown before me.  With every journey to a new unknown place; you must realise one thing.  Something that is scary to most people.  When you leave, everything around you is going to be very different: and when you return, nothing will ever be the same again.  The journey will force you to change by challenging you each step of the way.  It will unveil your true character, because that is all that you will be left with on the road.  Your true self. I leave in 7 days for a month in Costa Rica.  I should probably make a list of the all the things I need to get done before I leave; but that isn’t my style.  I’m a fly by the seat of my pants type of traveler, allowing a mixtures of spontaneity and fate to guide me.   Give me any starting point in the world and I will inevitably end up where I need to be at the precise time I need to be there.  True, your probably thinking bullshit because that would be impossible.  Impossible for only those who plan to arrive somewhere on their trip.  For me, it’s not an arrival or a departure; it’s a journey.  The only time and place I need to be is here and now with the road least traveled before me.  To be a free soul on the open road living only for the present moment.  Stay tuned for upcoming stories from the Costa Rica Trail….

Unique Paulo Coelho Quotes

Unique Paulo Coelho Quotes that I have found over time….Enjoy!

“The glory of the world is transitory, and we should not measure our lives by it, but by the choice we make to follow our personal legend, to believe in our utopias and to fight for our dreams.  We are all protagonists of our own lives, and it is often the anonymous heroes who leave the deepest mark.”      Coelho     Acceptance speech delivered to the Brazilian academy of letters.

”The good fight is the one that we fight in the name of our dreams; it was brought from the battlefields into our very selves.”    Coelho   The Pilgrimage

”Ever since the time began, people have recognized their true love by the light in their eyes.”                            Coelho    Brida

“Do not try to explain feelings.  Live everything intensely and treasure what you feel as a gift from God.”         Coelho         Brida

”The world lies in the hands of those who have the courage to dream and who take risk of living out their dreams - each according to his or her own talent”                        Coelho    The Valkyries

”Love is looking at the same mountains from different angles.”                          Coelho     The Valkyries

“Life always waits for some crisis to occur before revealing itself at its most brilliant.”     Coelho       The Valkyries

If you have a past with which you feel dissatisfied, the forget it, now.  Imagine a new story for your life and believe in it.  Focus only on the moments when you achieved what you desired, and that strength will help you get what you want.”                              Coelho    The Fifth Mountain

”When we are high up, everything looks very small.  Our glories and our sadnesses cease to be important.  We have left whatever we won or lost down below.  From the top of a mountain you can see how large the world is and how wide the horizon.”                Coelho    The Fifth Mountain

“Every day, God gives us, as well as the sun, a moment when it is possible to change anything that is causing us unhappiness. The magic moment is the moment when a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’ can change our whole existence.  Every day, we try to pretend that we do not see that moment, this it does not exit, that today is the same as yesterday and that tomorrow will be the same too.  However, anyone who pays close attention to his day will discover the magic moment.  It might be hidden in the instant that we put the key in the door in the morning, in the moment of silence after supper, in the thousand and one things that appear to us to be the same.  This moment exists, a moment in which all the strenght of the stars flows through us and allows us to perform miracles.” Coelho           By the River Piedra I sat down and wept

“In his or her life, each person can take one of two attitudes: to build or to plant.  Builders may take years over their tasks, but one day they will finish what they are doing.  Then they will stop, hemmed in by their own walls.  Life becomes meaningless once the building is finished.  Those who plant suffer the storms and the seasons and rarely rest.  Unlike a building, a garden never stops growing.  And by its constant demands on the gardener’s attention, it makes the gardener’s life a great adventure.”  Coelho   Brida

Enlightened Quotes

Nothing is impossible in life.  I believe that if you want something with all your heart; and you have the courage to chase that dream to the end: victory will be yours.   I hope you enjoy these two following quotes…

Ask, and it shall be given you;

seek, and ye shall find;

knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

For every one that asketh, receiveth;

and he that seeketh, findeth;

and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

Mathew 7:7,8

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to acheive it”

Poetry and my Favorite book Store

December 6, 2007 by idreamnow

Idream Now has been recently upgraded to http://idreamnowtravelblog.com/

Nothing beats a great used book store that is filled with the owner’s love and passion for books.  My favorite book store in all the world is Dark Horse Books in Victory BC.  The owner Robert is straight out of a Kerouac novel.  An old time hippie who can tell you real stories about Haight-Ashbury, travelling, and much more.  His shop is filled with exactly what I love to read about.  Books by Artist who were possessed by Love, Magic, Miracles, Travel, Art, Beauty, Freedom, underground, Music, Poetry….

That’s where I found this little poetry book by a Vancouver artist named Ed Varney.  In this book, I found my first piece of literature that I felt compelled to respond to with a poem of my own.

Here is Ed Varney’s Poem titled Happiness from his book What the wind said

A man gets up, goes to work, works & goes home.

He gets up, he goes to work, he works & he goes home.

He does this for five days, the he has two days off.

This is called the weekend.

On the weekends he cuts the lawn, washes the car,

plays tennis, does some work around the house & takes the kids to a movie.

This is called Fun.

A man goes through this fifty times in a row.

Then he gets two weeks off to do what wants-

that is, if he can remember what he wanted to do.

The pressures, the decisions, the routines, the boredom,

the obligations, the interruptions, the confusion, the frustration,

the constant appraisal & reappraisal have scrambled who he was &

washed it down the drain of his ambition until

all he can think of is lying in the sand on a beach

drinking gin & tonic

to drown out the last shreds

of his imagination.

This is called happiness.

What the wind said    The Caitlin Press

This is my response to Ed’s Poem titled Happiness

The happy man’s response

Man gets up, Masturbates, then smiles.

Man enjoys both a hot and then cold shower.

He goes to the park for fresh air and sunhine.

He reads, he writes, he paints, he smiles.

He does this for as long as he likes.

This is called the good life.

In the good life he smells the lawn,

Cruises in the car while enjoying his health.

Man allows himself to feel good about his accomplishments &

He always seeks entertainment with loved ones.

This is called fun.

If man goes through this infinite times in a row.

Then man’s life is a Vacation to do with what he wants.

He can’t remember the pressures, the rules, the pains of past.

He washes then down the drain of the Now.

He smiles wide, smells the freedom of the Ocean

and feels wonderful beach beneath his toes,

all the while Drunk on love and imagination.

This is called Happiness.”
